The Origins: Christian Faith Charity Foundation

Keelung City faces significant social challenges, including high rates of unemployment, divorce, and suicide. These issues often lead to broken and dysfunctional families, resulting in domestic violence, poverty, and the struggles of single-parent households. For many years, the churches of Keelung have been dedicated to caring for the city’s vulnerable populations—particularly the children who are displaced, traumatized, and unable to protect themselves. Through this work, it became clear that providing a safe growth environment through an orphanage was the only way to fundamentally address their needs. To achieve this, the first essential step was to establish a government-registered charitable foundation.

Following a call to action among local Christians to fulfill the mission of "showing mercy to the poor and caring for orphans and widows," a fundraising campaign was launched. In just five and a half months, thanks to the generosity of church members and public donors, the necessary funds were raised. On May 11, 2007, the Keelung Christian Faith Social Welfare and Charity Foundation was officially established. Shortly after, on October 1 of the same year, the foundation opened Keelung’s first residential child and youth care institution: "Da-Guang (Great Light, Isaiah 9:2) Children and Youth Home."

Over years of dedicated service, the Faith Foundation has expanded its reach beyond vulnerable children and youth to actively support victims of domestic violence and their accompanying children. By establishing a domestic violence shelter for women and children, we provide them with a protective shield and a safe environment to heal. Looking ahead, we remain committed to the spirit of Christian love. We will continue to develop diverse social welfare initiatives, ensuring that the "Great Light" (Da-Guang) shines into the darkness—seeking the lost, healing the wounded, and sharing sincere love and hope with society.
